Menora Mivtachim (TASE: MMHD) — Israel's #3 insurer. Histadrut origins. Life, pensions, P&C. Major institutional investor.

Menora Mivtachim Holdings (TASE: MMHD) is Israel's third-largest insurance group, formed through the 2007 merger of Menora Insurance Company and Mivtachim — the latter being one of Israel's oldest pension funds, historically affiliated with the Histadrut labor federation. The combined entity operates across life insurance, non-life (property and casualty), pensions, provident funds, and long-term savings products.

Histadrut Roots

Mivtachim was founded as the pension fund of the Histadrut — the Israeli labor federation that dominated Israeli economic life from pre-state through the 1980s. The Histadrut's pension funds were among the largest pools of capital in the Israeli economy, financing government bonds, Histadrut-owned enterprises, and public infrastructure. The privatization and restructuring of Histadrut financial assets in the 1990s and 2000s transformed Mivtachim from a labor-movement institution into a publicly traded insurance and pension company. The merger with Menora created a scale player capable of competing with Harel and Phoenix.
