How The Olam handles personal information.

Last updated: May 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Olam Media LLC ("The Olam," "we," "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you visit olam.business, subscribe to a newsletter, create an account, contact us, or otherwise interact with our content and services. It applies globally and is intended to satisfy our obligations under the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended (CCPA/CPRA), Israel's Protection of Privacy Law, and other applicable privacy frameworks.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide. Your name, email address, employer, role, country, and any details you submit when subscribing to newsletters, registering for an account, requesting a correction, sending a tip, applying to contribute, or contacting editorial, partnerships, or legal.

Information collected automatically. IP address, approximate location derived from IP, device and browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, time on page, scroll depth, search terms used on the site, and similar diagnostic data, collected through server logs, cookies, and similar technologies.

Information from third parties. Authentication providers (if you sign in via a third-party identity), payment processors (transaction confirmations — we do not store full card numbers), email delivery and analytics vendors, and publicly available sources used in our editorial entity pages.

2. How We Use Information

We use personal information to: deliver and improve the site and our research products; send newsletters and account communications you have requested; process and support paid subscriptions; respond to inquiries, tips, and correction requests; measure traffic, engagement, and performance; detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, scraping, and security incidents; and comply with legal obligations.

3. Legal Bases (EEA/UK)

Where GDPR applies, we rely on: consent (newsletters, optional cookies); contract (account and subscription services); legitimate interests (operating, securing, and improving the site, conducting independent journalism, communicating with industry sources); and legal obligation (tax, accounting, response to lawful requests).

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use strictly necessary cookies to operate the site and optional analytics and preference cookies to understand usage and remember your settings. Where required by law, we request consent before setting non-essential cookies. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may degrade certain features.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We share limited personal information with: service providers acting on our behalf under written agreements (hosting, email delivery, analytics, payments, customer support, security); professional advisors (lawyers, auditors); authorities where required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property; and acquirers or successors in the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to confidentiality.

6. Editorial Use of Personal Information

The Olam is a publication. We process personal information about executives, founders, investors, officials, and other public-facing figures for the purpose of journalism, research, and the public interest. Such processing is conducted in reliance on applicable journalistic exemptions and is governed by our Editorial and Ethics policies.

7. International Transfers

The Olam operates internationally. Personal information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Israel, and other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

8. Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes described, to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe; account data while your account is active; analytics data in aggregated or shortened form according to vendor defaults.

9. Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review of vendor practices. No system is perfectly secure.

10. Your Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal information; object to certain processing; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. California residents may exercise rights under CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know, delete, correct, and limit use of sensitive personal information; we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under CCPA/CPRA. To exercise rights, email privacy@olam.business. We may verify your identity before responding.

11. Children

The Olam is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be indicated by an updated "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, additional notice.
