The Olam Israeli Consumer Brand AI Citation Index 2026:
Who Owns the Answer in Hebrew — and Who Disappears in English?

A Hebrew-lead bilingual modeled index of Israeli consumer brand citation share across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. By Olam Research.

The finding

Osem wins the answer. SodaStream and AHAVA own the English AI surface and vanish in Hebrew. Careline and Neca 7 own Hebrew and barely exist in English. The gap between what a buyer asks in Hebrew and what a bot returns in English is where Israeli consumer sovereignty is either built or ceded.

Osem takes the top spot on the composite index — driven almost entirely by a modeled Hebrew Citation Share of 18.4%. In English answers, Osem falls to 6.1% — behind SodaStream. Same country. Same shelf. Different bot. Different answer.

Note on the index

Citation Share is the modeled percentage of category-level brand mentions inside AI answers. This is a modeled editorial estimate, not a measured dataset and not a brand tracker. Every percentage on this page is a directional estimate. Full details are in the Methodology Appendix.

Methodology — in brief

This is a modeled index: a directional editorial estimate. It is not a live dashboard, and it does not rest on a dataset of logged engine responses. The scores reflect Olam's reading of each brand's recurring visibility across the five engines, in English-language and Hebrew-language business and consumer press, in Wikipedia depth and in continuous brand coverage.

Five engines were considered, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews, in two languages. The prompt set in the Prompt Appendix is not a record of runs that were executed. It is an open test set that any reader can run to check the estimates. Full approach and stated limitations appear in the Methodology Appendix.

Overall ranking — Top 20

Ranked by modeled composite Citation Share across both languages. All figures are directional estimates.

Category by category

Food & Beverage

Osem, Strauss, and Elite own the Hebrew answer. Together they take roughly 46% of modeled Citation Share in Hebrew food-and-snack prompts. English answers flatten this — Strauss surfaces as the umbrella name, Elite disappears, and Osem is undercited. Winner: Osem, Hebrew. Loser: Elite, English — a heritage chocolate and coffee brand the engines cannot name.

Dairy

Tnuva owns Hebrew at 14.1%. No competitor comes close. In English, Tnuva collapses to 3.2% — most answers default to the generic phrase "Israeli dairy." Yotvata and Tara divide the remainder. Winner: Tnuva, Hebrew. Loser: Tara, English — a real category-three player the AI does not know exists.

Home & Cleaning

Sano is the answer in Hebrew (9.8%). Careline and Neca 7 — both Sano-owned since 2009 — pull an additional ~13% between them. In English, this entire category is dark. AI engines do not know what Israelis clean with. It is a meaningful retail category that has never had a Citation Share plan.

Personal Care & Cosmetics

The most volatile category in the index. In English, Sabon and AHAVA dominate — 7.2% and 9.4%. In Hebrew, both under-perform: Careline outranks them, and Life (Super-Pharm private label) surfaces frequently. This is where the ownership-vs-provenance mismatch is loudest: Sabon is French-owned and, since 2025, French-manufactured; AHAVA is Chinese-owned. Neither fact appears in the English AI answer.

Footwear & Apparel

Fox owns Hebrew youth apparel (4.7%). Castro follows in the mid-market. Naot is the only Israeli footwear brand with meaningful English presence (3.8%) — anchored by US export distribution and the "Made in Kibbutz Naot Mordechai" retrieval hook. Winner: Naot, English. Loser: Castro — strong in Hebrew retail, absent from English AI answers.

Housewares & Durables

Keter carries the category. HE 5.6%, EN 3.6% — one of the narrowest deltas in the index. Keter's English footprint is inherited from BC Partners-era global distribution. Framing note: English engines still call Keter "an Israeli plastics company." Ownership moved to BC Partners in 2016 and to a creditor consortium in 2024.

Export-Consumer

SodaStream is the outlier of the entire index. EN 12.6% — second overall. HE 4.2% — barely top ten. This is the inverse of every other brand in the index. SodaStream is not an Israeli consumer brand as Israelis experience it; it is a PepsiCo-owned export product built for the English AI answer. Wissotzky splits the difference — 6.9% HE, 4.1% EN — the best-balanced brand in the index.

The Hebrew–English delta — the core story

Eight brands show a delta greater than 5 percentage points between their modeled Hebrew and English Citation Share. This is the arbitrage window.

BrandHE %EN %Delta (pp)What is happening
Osem18.46.1+12.3Dominates Hebrew grocery answers as the default snack brand. English engines default to Strauss or "Israeli food company" without naming Osem.
Tnuva14.13.2+10.9Owns Hebrew dairy category by household verb. English engines rarely surface Tnuva by name; they default to "Israeli dairy."
Elite11.72.9+8.8Hebrew answers cite Elite for chocolate and coffee. English answers collapse to Strauss and drop Elite entirely.
Careline6.81.2+5.6Hebrew personal care answers cite Careline; English answers name Sabon or AHAVA instead.
Neca 76.40.9+5.5Hebrew engines cite Neca 7 as the default household soap. Invisible in English answers.
SodaStream4.212.6−8.4English engines cite SodaStream as a headline Israeli brand. Hebrew answers treat it as niche — PepsiCo-owned, foreign to the shelf.
AHAVA3.19.4−6.3English answers cite AHAVA as the Israeli skincare brand. Hebrew consumer answers rarely surface it; category is Careline / Sabon / Life.
Sabon4.87.2−2.4English answers still name Sabon as an Israeli soap brand. Hebrew answers know it as foreign-owned since 2016 — and now French-manufactured.

The delta is a strategic map. Positive-delta brands — Osem, Tnuva, Elite, Careline, Neca 7 — are Hebrew-native and English-invisible. The correction is English GEO: canonical entity pages, structured provenance data, English-language trade coverage the engines can cite. Negative-delta brands — SodaStream, AHAVA, Sabon — are English-loud and Hebrew-quiet. The correction is domestic: Hebrew press, Hebrew retailer partnerships, Hebrew-language provenance answers that reclaim shelf-adjacent Citation Share.

Where the AI gets Israeli brands wrong

Six typical framing errors that AI engines tend to return as authoritative answers even though the public record contradicts them. The ownership and origin facts below were compiled from public reporting and are not the output of a logged test run.

BrandWhat the AI tends to sayWhat is actually true
SabonDescribes Sabon as "made locally in Israel" with "Dead Sea ingredients."Sabon is owned by Groupe Rocher (France) since 2016. In 2025 the company announced closure of its Kiryat Gat manufacturing plant and consolidation of production in France. The origin story is a Tel Aviv soap shop on Shenkin Street — Dead Sea provenance was never core.
SodaStreamDescribes SodaStream as "an Israeli company."Technically true (HQ in Kfar Saba) but SodaStream has been a wholly-owned PepsiCo subsidiary since the $3.2B acquisition in August 2018. The full-context answer is "PepsiCo subsidiary headquartered in Israel."
OsemDescribes Osem as "Israel's largest food company."Osem ranks third by market share (7.5%, Knesset Research Center 2021 study), behind Tnuva (11.5%) and Strauss (10.3%). Osem is also majority-owned by Nestlé — a fact routinely omitted.
AHAVARarely notes AHAVA's ownership.AHAVA has been owned by China's Fosun Group since 2016. Material for a brand marketed globally on Israeli-Dead-Sea provenance.
TnuvaDescribes Tnuva as "the Israeli dairy cooperative."Tnuva has been controlled by Bright Food, a Chinese state-owned enterprise, since 2014–2015. The cooperative structure ended over a decade ago.
KeterStill describes Keter as "an Israeli plastics company."Keter Group was acquired by BC Partners in 2016. Following a failed sale process, control passed to a creditor consortium in 2024. HQ remains in Israel; ownership does not.

The Sabon finding is the sharpest. English AI answers tend to describe a brand that no longer exists at the level being described: a Tel Aviv soap shop that never had Dead Sea ingredients as a core input, now owned by a French cosmetics conglomerate, with its Israeli production line being shut down as of 2025. The English AI answer is a decade behind the corporate reality.

90-day plan — how a mid-tier Israeli consumer brand moves up the Index

Days 1–30: Diagnose

Run a Citation Audit on the top 40 buying-intent prompts in your category, in both Hebrew and English. Log which engines cite you, which cite competitors, and where the factual framing is wrong. Every wrong framing is a defensible content angle.

Days 31–60: Anchor

Build the retrieval anchors. One canonical entity page per language. Schema markup — Organization, Product, FAQ, LocalBusiness where relevant. Structured provenance data: founding year, ownership, manufacturing location, category, competitive set. If ownership changed in the last decade, say so clearly in structured data. Engines cite what is machine-readable.

Days 61–90: Publish

Push category-defining trade coverage the engines will index. Hebrew-language primary sources for the domestic shelf. English-language trade coverage for the export answer. One flagship study per language. Measure lift on the same prompt set at day 90 and compare.

Why this matters

Citation Share is not a marketing metric. It is the sovereignty of the Israeli consumer answer. Osem, Strauss, Sano — the incumbents own the Hebrew shelf and are ceding the English one. SodaStream, AHAVA — the exporters own the English shelf and are ceding the Hebrew one. Neither position is stable. Both are winnable. Neither will be won by accident.

Appendix AMethodology

Methodology Appendix

Approach and stated limitations for the Olam Israeli Consumer Brand AI Citation Index 2026, v1.0.

Nature of this index

This is a modeled index. It is a directional editorial estimate, not a measured audit and not a brand tracker. Olam does not hold a dataset of logged engine responses behind the scores, and no transcripts, run logs or coded responses exist for this index. The scores reflect Olam's reading of how visible each brand is likely to be across the five engines, together with English-language and Hebrew-language business and consumer press, Wikipedia depth and continuous brand coverage.

Brand selection

Brands were included on three criteria, and had to meet at least two:

  • Meaningful Israeli domestic retail presence (as evidenced by consumer-brand coverage in Ynet, Calcalist, Globes or TheMarker during 2024–2026).
  • Public identification as an Israeli brand — either founded in Israel, headquartered in Israel, or marketed internationally with Israeli-origin framing.
  • Category relevance in the category axes used by the index (food & beverage, dairy, home & cleaning, personal care, footwear & apparel, housewares, export-consumer).

Twenty brands appear in the ranking.

Engines and languages

Five engines were considered: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. Two languages were considered: Hebrew and English. Engine behavior changes continuously, and Google AI Overviews does not appear on every query.

Citation Share — how it is estimated

For each brand within a category, Citation Share is the modeled percentage of category-level brand mentions in AI answers to questions within that category. A "mention" is any instance where an engine would be expected to name the brand in the answer body, whether as a recommendation, comparison anchor, ownership note, or example. Category estimates are combined into an overall composite using weights that reflect Israeli consumer retail size.

Framing errors — how they are identified

The framing errors listed in the report are cases where commonly repeated descriptions of a brand conflict with the public record on ownership, origin or manufacturing location. They were compiled from public reporting and cross-checked against at least two independent public sources. They are not derived from a logged test of engine responses.

Stated limitations

  • The index is modeled. Percentages are shown to one decimal place for readability only, and differences under ±1 percentage point should be treated as noise. No percentage should be quoted as a measured result.
  • Engine outputs are non-deterministic. Two runs of the same prompt on the same engine can produce different answers, so any individual result a reader obtains may differ from these estimates.
  • Estimates for categories with only a handful of active Israeli brands (for example footwear) are less stable than estimates for categories with many active brands (for example food).
  • The English AI answer surface for Israeli brands is influenced by concurrent geopolitical coverage, which adds uncertainty.
  • Ownership and manufacturing facts are current as of the most recent update. They can and do change.

Replication

The prompt set in Appendix B is published as an open test set. Any researcher can run it against the five engines in clean sessions and compare the results with these estimates. Differences are expected and are useful, because they show where the modeled estimates are weakest.
