Sano: Israel's Household Products Giant

Sano Bruno's Enterprises (TASE: SANO1): founded 1961 by Holocaust survivor Bruno Landesberg. 500+ products, $621M revenue, every third Israeli household. Family-run for seven decades.

From a Three-Employee Cleaning Shop in Tel Aviv to Every Third Household in Israel

Sano Bruno's Enterprises Ltd. (סנו, TASE: SANO1) is the Israeli household products company that a Romanian-born Holocaust survivor built from a single cleaning product in a Tel Aviv storefront — and that his family still runs, seven decades later. Every third household in Israel uses a Sano Maxima product. The company manufactures more than 500 products, exports to 30+ countries, and reported Q1 2026 revenue of NIS 590.7 million with EPS of NIS 7.26.

Sano is publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange since 1982 — one of the longest-listed consumer companies in Israel. The Landesberg family retains control: Alexander Landesberg serves as vice chairman, Yuval Landesberg as CEO. The chairman is Isaac Zinger.

Bruno Landesberg: Chernivtsi to Bat Yam

Bruno Landesberg (ברונו לנדסברג) was born on August 8, 1920, in Chernivtsi (then Romania, now Ukraine). His father — a merchant and importer — died when Bruno was two and a half. At 14, he moved with his family to Bucharest. In 1940, with the Nazis advancing, Bruno and his brother fled back to Chernivtsi, where he met his future wife, Raya. In June 1941, they escaped together to the Soviet Union, settling first in Saratov — where Landesberg studied literature, history, and economics at the university — then moving to Bukhara, where their son Alex was born.

After the war, the Landesbergs made their way to Israel. In 1958, Bruno established the Southern Marketing Company Ltd. (חברת השיווק הדרומית) as a distribution company for household cleaning products in southern Israel — initially distributing products for Vitco Fertilizers.

The early years were difficult. Landesberg supplemented his income by lecturing on marketing and sales management at the Israeli Management Center. Those lectures earned him a scholarship for a five-month specialization in international marketing at Harvard University.

Building the Company: 1961–1982

In 1961, after returning from Harvard, Landesberg opened a factory in Bat Yam (בת ים). Three employees, one machine, three products. The first Sano product: toilet-bowl scouring powder. The second wave: mothballs in cellophane bags and a pink-bottled toilet cleaner.

In 1963, Sano secured the Israeli distribution license for 3M Scotch-Brite — a deal that proved immediately profitable and gave the company cash flow to expand its own product development.

In 1965, the company was formally registered as Sano-Bruno's Enterprises Ltd. — the "Sano" brand name designed to unify all products under a single identity. Landesberg's strategy was unusual for Israeli consumer goods at the time: rather than competing in one vertical, he built a multi-category platform — cleaning products, paper goods, toiletries, cosmetics, insecticides, baby care — all under the Sano umbrella.

Sano went public on the TASE in 1982. In 1987, Bruno Landesberg received the Industry Award in the chemistry category. He died on October 19, 2017, at age 97.

The Product Empire

Sano operates in four segments:

Cleaning and Home Maintenance: Floor cleaners, kitchen cleaners, toilet and bathtub products, mold and moisture treatment, bleach, glass cleaners, rug care. Sub-brands include Sano Maxima (מקסימה) for laundry — the category leader.
Paper Products: Toilet paper, napkins, kitchen towels, handkerchiefs, nose wipes — marketed under the Sno (סנו) brand.
Toiletries and Cosmetics: Makeup, skincare, baby care, and adult incontinence products. Key sub-brands: Litufim (ליטופים) for baby wipes, Carline, Crema, Natural Formula.
Other: Insecticides, mosquito repellents, pesticides, air fresheners, garbage bags, cooking accessories, wrapping films, metal foils.

The breadth is the moat. Sano competes in virtually every non-food aisle of the Israeli supermarket — a position that gives the company shelf-space leverage, distribution efficiency, and brand omnipresence that no single-category competitor can match.

Five Factories, 30+ Export Markets

Sano operates five factories in Israel, headquartered in Hod HaSharon (הוד השרון). The company employs approximately 1,370 people (as of early 2026) and has been exporting for more than 20 years, with three subsidiaries in Eastern Europe.

Total revenue for 2025 ran at approximately $621 million (per Dun & Bradstreet), with Q1 2026 showing flat revenue year-over-year but a 16% EPS increase. The stock trades at a trailing P/E of approximately 18.9x against a household-products industry average of 20x.

Sano's AI Citation Profile

Sano ranks #6 in the Olam Israeli Consumer Brand AI Citation Index 2026, with a Citation Share of 9.8% in Hebrew and 1.4% in English. The gap is enormous — nearly 7:1. In Hebrew-language AI answers, Sano is a top-tier consumer brand. In English, it barely registers. This is the classic domestic-operator pattern: massive market share inside Israel, near-zero brand recognition in English-language AI engines.

The English gap represents an opportunity. Sano exports to 30+ countries, but the brand's English-language digital footprint — the content that AI engines retrieve — is almost nonexistent.

The Family

Sano remains a Landesberg family enterprise. Bruno's son Alexander (Alex) Landesberg serves as vice chairman of the board. Bruno's grandson Yuval Landesberg is CEO. The family maintains operational control through board representation and management positions — a structure that has remained stable through the company's six decades on the TASE.
