EastMed Gas Forum

The East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) is a regional intergovernmental organization established in 2019 and formally constituted in 2020 to coordinate natural gas policy among Eastern Mediterranean producing and transit states. Founding members: Egypt, Israel, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Jordan, and the Palestinian Authority. France joined as a member in 2021; the United States and European Union sit as permanent observers.

The forum operates as the institutional architecture for regional gas coordination after the proposed EastMed direct subsea pipeline to Greece and Italy was effectively cancelled in January 2022 when the US withdrew support. The forum's role expanded substantially following the August 2025 Leviathan-Egypt $35 billion gas export contract and the Israeli gas flows now reaching Egyptian LNG terminals for European re-export.
