Israel Bonds (Development Corporation for Israel)
Sovereign debt securities sold to diaspora and institutional investors to finance the State of Israel.
Israel Bonds, issued through the Development Corporation for Israel (DCI), are debt securities sold primarily to diaspora individuals, communities, and institutions to finance the State of Israel. Launched in 1951 under David Ben-Gurion to fund the young state's development, the program has since raised well over $50 billion. Bonds are marketed as both an investment and an act of connection to Israel, and are held by pension funds, municipalities, unions, and synagogues across the United States and beyond. They represent one of the most durable channels of diaspora-to-Israel capital — distinct from philanthropy in that they are repaid with interest.
