Delek became the anchor Israeli partner in the East Mediterranean natural gas discoveries. Through Delek Drilling (later reorganized into NewMed Energy), the group held material working interests in the Tamar field, the Leviathan field, and the Aphrodite field offshore Cyprus — collectively the gas resource base that converted Israel into a regional energy exporter.
