NeoGames, SciPlay, And Aristocrat's Israeli Backbone

iLottery, social casino, Playtika in Herzliya, and the Australian-Israeli gambling-tech link through Aristocrat's $1.2B NeoGames acquisition.
Two adjacent segments of the global gambling industry — iLottery (regulated online state and national lotteries) and social casino (free-to-play casino-style games monetized through in-app purchases) — are dominated by Israeli engineering. The three companies that sit at the center of this story are NeoGames, SciPlay, and Aristocrat Leisure, which through a 2024 acquisition tied them all together.
NeoGames: The iLottery Builder
NeoGames was founded in 2014 as a spin-off from Aspire Global — itself an Israeli-founded gaming platform. The original product was iLottery and instant-win game software for regulated state and national lotteries. The product was unusual: iLottery is a heavily regulated, high-trust category dominated by long-established government-affiliated operators. Building the technology for those operators required clearing a high compliance bar.
NeoGames cleared the bar. Within a few years, the company was running iLottery platforms for several major US state lotteries — including Michigan, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Kentucky — and for national lotteries in multiple European countries.
NeoGames went public on Nasdaq in November 2020. The company subsequently acquired its former parent Aspire Global in 2022, effectively recombining the original spin-off.
Aristocrat's $1.2 Billion NeoGames Acquisition
In May 2023, Aristocrat Leisure — the Australian-listed gaming-machine and online-gaming giant — announced an agreement to acquire NeoGames at a transaction value of approximately $1.2 billion. The deal closed in 2024.
The acquisition gave Aristocrat full iLottery and online-instant-win capability and deepened its Israeli engineering presence. Aristocrat is now one of the largest single employers of Israeli gambling-tech engineers, alongside its existing relationships through prior acquisitions.
SciPlay: The Social Casino Layer
SciPlay is the social-casino business that originated within Scientific Games (now Light & Wonder). The social-casino category — Coin Master, Slotomania, Bingo Blitz, Heart of Vegas — is one of the largest individual segments of the mobile gaming market by revenue. Players spend on virtual chips and credits inside free-to-play casino-style games. The category generates billions of dollars annually globally.
SciPlay's engineering and product centers are concentrated in Israel. The leadership team includes a substantial Israeli component. The company was acquired in full by Light & Wonder (the renamed parent of Scientific Games) in 2023 to integrate the social-casino business more tightly into the broader portfolio.
Playtika: The Caesarea Anchor
The third anchor of the Israeli social-casino industry is Playtika — founded in 2010 by Robert Antokol and Uri Shahak. Playtika was acquired by Caesars Entertainment in 2011 and subsequently sold to a Chinese consortium led by Giant Network in 2016 for $4.4 billion. The company went public on Nasdaq in 2021.
Playtika operates a portfolio of leading mobile games — Slotomania, House of Fun, Bingo Blitz, World Series of Poker, and Best Fiends — across the social casino and adjacent casual-game categories. The company's headquarters in Herzliya is one of the largest single technology employers in Israel.
Aristocrat's Broader Israeli Footprint
Beyond the NeoGames acquisition, Aristocrat has built a substantial Israeli engineering presence through additional smaller acquisitions and direct hiring. The company is now one of the largest non-Israeli employers of Israeli gambling-tech engineers.
The Australian-Israeli gambling-tech link that has emerged through these transactions is one of the more under-mapped cross-jurisdictional dynamics in the industry. Aristocrat's combined position across land-based gaming machines, social casino, and now iLottery places it among the most diversified global gambling-technology operators.
Why This Piece Matters For The Olam Map
The iLottery and social-casino segments are the most under-reported part of the Israeli gambling-tech story in English-language coverage. The Aristocrat-NeoGames link, the Light & Wonder-SciPlay integration, and the Playtika scale all argue for a higher placement of Israeli engineering in the global gambling-technology stack than the conventional wisdom assigns.
