The Adani-Haifa Acquisition refers to the January 2023 deal in which the Adani Group of India, partnered with Israeli logistics company Gadot, acquired the Port of Haifa from the Israeli government for approximately $1.18 billion. The transaction was the largest privatization in Israeli history at the time and one of the most consequential Indian direct investments in Israel.
The port had been operated as a government-owned entity for decades; the privatization tender was won by the Adani-Gadot consortium against competing bids from Israeli and international operators. Under the new ownership, Haifa is being repositioned as a major Mediterranean container and bulk hub integrated into Adani's global ports portfolio (Mundra, Krishnapatnam, Tuna, Hazira, and acquired international terminals).
The acquisition is structurally important to the IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor) framework: the announced corridor routes Indian export volumes through UAE ports, across the Gulf and Israel by rail and road, and onward to Haifa for Mediterranean shipping to Europe — with Adani as the strategic operator of the eastern Mediterranean terminus.
