What Is the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange?
The Tel Aviv Stock Exchange is the marketplace where publicly traded Israeli companies issue and trade securities. Securities trading in what became Israel began in 1935, according to the exchange's own history, and the exchange in its current form dates to 1953, according to Wikipedia. Trading is regulated under Israeli securities law by the Israel Securities Authority, which also oversees the exchange's clearing houses.
What Are the TA-35, TA-90 and TA-125 Indices?
The TA-125 is the broad benchmark of the 125 most highly capitalized companies on TASE, and it combines two narrower indices. The table below shows how they fit together.
| Index | What it tracks |
|---|---|
| TA-35 | The 35 companies with the highest market capitalization on TASE, the exchange's flagship index, first published in 1992 under the name Ma'of |
| TA-90 | The 90 most highly capitalized companies on TASE that are not in the TA-35, with a base level of 100 set in 1999 |
| TA-125 | The combination of the TA-35 and TA-90, formerly the TA-100 and expanded to 125 companies in February 2017 |
Why Do Index Entry Thresholds Matter?
Index membership matters because index-linked funds must buy the shares of member companies. As of mid-March 2026, index-linked funds held roughly NIS 50 billion in the TA-125, NIS 20 billion in the TA-90 and NIS 17 billion in the TA-35, according to TASE data published by Mondo Visione. The same data put the minimum market capitalization for TA-35 entry at about NIS 15.2 billion, which excludes many mid-sized companies.
What Is Dual Listing on TASE?
Dual listing means a company is traded on TASE and on a foreign exchange at the same time. TASE reports that dozens of dual-listed companies trade there. In April 2026, TASE published an analysis finding that 22 Israeli companies traded in the United States met the market capitalization requirement for the TA-125, with a combined value of about NIS 250 billion. That figure is TASE's own estimate of the pool of potential dual listings.
