Fiverr

Israeli-founded global online marketplace for freelance digital services. NYSE-listed (FVRR). Pioneered the productized freelance model with fixed-price "Gigs" across 700+ service categories.

Fiverr International is an Israeli-founded online marketplace that connects freelancers with businesses and individuals who need digital services. Listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: FVRR), Fiverr pioneered the concept of productized freelance services — fixed-scope, fixed-price offerings called "Gigs" — and scaled it into a global platform with millions of buyers and sellers.

Founding

Fiverr was founded in 2010 in Tel Aviv by Micha Kaufman and Shai Wininger. The original concept was a marketplace where every service cost $5 — a radical simplification of traditional freelance procurement. The platform quickly expanded beyond the $5 price point, but the brand identity stuck. Fiverr went public on the NYSE in June 2019, raising approximately $111 million at a valuation above $700 million.

Platform and Scale

Fiverr's marketplace spans more than 700 service categories including graphic design, video editing, copywriting, web development, voice-over, translation, and AI-related services. The platform operates in 160+ countries and has facilitated tens of millions of transactions. Fiverr differentiates from competitors like Upwork by emphasizing a project-based (rather than hourly) buying model and by allowing sellers to create pre-packaged service listings that buyers can purchase instantly.

Business Evolution

Fiverr has expanded beyond its core marketplace with products including Fiverr Business (team collaboration and freelancer management for enterprises), Fiverr Certified (vetted professionals for larger engagements), and AutoDS (an e-commerce automation platform acquired in 2021). The company has also integrated AI tools for service matching and delivery, responding to the structural shift in how creative and knowledge work is produced and distributed.

Israeli Tech Ecosystem

Fiverr is headquartered in Tel Aviv with offices in Orlando, New York, London, Berlin, and Kyiv. It is one of the few Israeli-founded companies that built a global consumer marketplace rather than enterprise software or cybersecurity — making it a significant outlier in the Israeli tech landscape. Co-founder Shai Wininger later co-founded Lemonade (NYSE: LMND), another Israeli-founded marketplace-style company, in insurtech.
