Shin Bet (Shabak)
Israel's internal security service, responsible for counterterrorism, counter-intelligence, and protective security inside Israel and the Palestinian territories. Founded 1949. Reports to the Prime Minister. Known in Hebrew as Shabak (acronym for Sherut HaBitachon HaKlali, "General Security Service").
The Shin Bet (Shabak — Sherut HaBitachon HaKlali, "General Security Service") is Israel's internal security service. Founded in 1949, it is responsible for counterterrorism, counter-intelligence, and protective security inside Israel and across the Palestinian territories. It is one of three Israeli intelligence services, alongside the Mossad (foreign intelligence) and Aman (military intelligence), and reports directly to the Prime Minister.
Why it matters. Like the Mossad and Unit 8200, the Shin Bet functions as a talent engine for Israel's private cybersecurity and security industries — alumni have founded or led companies in surveillance technology, counter-fraud, identity verification, and intelligence analytics. The agency's operational profile is, by design, less commercially visible than the Mossad's, but the alumni footprint across the Israeli security-technology economy is substantial.
